Quark is a small box that turns a USB drive into your own cloud. Photos, files, and documents, on hardware you own, in a room you can walk into.
Why trust your data to anyone besides yourself? Store your photos, documents, anything else on devices where you can see them. Quark is the alternative to renting from a cloud provider, or being locked into someone else's subscription.
By default, your files stay on hardware you own, in your home, and Quark works on your home network without the internet. Remote access stays off until an admin turns it on, so you control how the data moves and lock it down as much as you like.
Quark has no analytics and no tracking. Your files stay on your own drive, so we don't receive them — there is nothing of yours for us to collect, and nothing of yours to train a model on. We don't take money from investors either, so we are free to continue our mission of safe, transparent, honest internet and data. Don't believe us? The code is public — read it yourself.
No venture capital. Funded by ordinary people who wanted this to exist.
Completely open source, for transparency. All of the code is public, and anyone can read it.
The device goes into a free ethernet port on your router. Power it on and it joins the network.
Any external USB drive works. Use the one in your desk drawer, or buy a bigger one later and add it. A drive is optional but recommended — it is where your photos and files have room to grow.
Install the app on your phone, or just visit the address in a browser. Browse your files, and upload the photos you pick.
Browse, upload, and organize everything on the drive from any device on the network. Drag a folder in from your laptop, pull it down on your phone.
Albums, favorites, and full-resolution originals on your own drive — not a compressed copy someone else keeps. On your home network, upload the photos you pick.
Write and edit documents in the browser. The file sits on your drive the whole time, so there is nothing to export when you want it back.
Budgets, inventories, whatever you track. Same editor, same storage, no outside account required.
A password manager that lives on your hardware. One vault per Quark, for its admins, encrypted on the drive and unlocked with one master password.
Everyone in the house gets their own account and a space that is private from the other members. Share a folder with a person or the whole household. Admins can open everything on the Quark.
An admin can put your Quark on a private encrypted network of its own — not a copy on our servers. Off until they turn it on. Joining that network from your phone or laptop is not in the app yet.
Find a file by name, or by what is written inside it. Documents and spreadsheets are searched by their contents, not just their titles.
Deleting something puts it in the trash instead of destroying it, so a misclick is an inconvenience rather than a loss. Restore it whenever you notice.
Play what is on the drive in the browser. Trim a clip, save a still frame, or convert a file the rest of your devices refuse to open.
iOS and Android apps that find your Quark on the WiFi by themselves, so there is no address to type. Currently in testing.
See how much space is left, which drives are attached, and what the Quark is busy with, without reading a log file.
Messaging for your household, end-to-end encrypted. The Quark stores messages it cannot read. Take someone's access away and the channel's key is replaced. An admin can turn chat off for everyone.
One calendar the whole household shares, on your own hardware. Day, week and month views, repeating events, and reminders that show up in the app. An admin can turn it off for everyone.
Instead of renting a slice of someone else's data center, you own the whole thing. Pay for a repair or an upgrade, or do it yourself. Add a drive, swap a drive, take one out. It is yours to manage as you please.
